Serie A Club Confirms Manchester United’s Failed Bid For Their Star Defender
Fiorentina rejected an offer from Manchester United for their star defender, Nikola Milenkovic.
The Red Devils were in pursuit of almost all the available talents plying their trades in central defence in the previous summer, having been linked to more than five centre-backs throughout the transfer window.
United eventually ended up bringing in no reinforcements in the position whatsoever, but it surely wasn’t for the lack of trying.
Now, after half a season, a new update from Italy has added another defender to the lengthy list of Manchester United‘s failed summer pursuits.
Pantaleo Corvino, the chief executive officer of Serie A outfit Fiorentina, has revealed that he rejected a bid from the Mancunian giants for Nikola Milenkovic.
The 69-year-old admitted (via Gazzetta dello Sport): “We rejected great offers from Lyon for Veretout, from Marseille for Simeone and from Manchester United for Nikola Milenkovic. De Laurentiis pressed for Chiesa. This is the right way to grow.”
Reports emerging back in October 2018 had claimed that United had submitted an enormous €60m offer for the 21-year-old, as Jose Mourinho was a huge fan of the Serbian international.
But the pursuit evidently ended in failure, and the club continues to endure its effects in central defence to this day.
