Solskjaer To Put An End To Manchester United’s Koulibaly Pursuit

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to end Manchester United’s pursuit of Kalidou Koulibaly. 

With the Red Devils eager to bring in defensive reinforcements since last season, the Napoli superstar has been on their wishlist ever since Jose Mourinho’s days at the helm of Old Trafford.

While no move was made for the star centre-back last summer, the Mancunian giants were expected to break the world transfer record for a defender, and cough up a fee north of £75 million to secure Koulibaly’s services.

But now, Solskjaer, who appears set to become Manchester United‘s permanent manager, may alter this long-term plan in one go.

According to The Sun, the Norwegian tactician would prefer strengthen his team’s attack, preferably the right wing area, than spend his transfer budget on signing a defender.

United already possess the likes of Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, and Marcos Rojo in their roster, and Ole is willing to give these players more chances to establish themselves in the heart of his side’s defence.

Instead of pursuing Koulibaly, Manchester United will focus on signing a right winger, with Borussia Dortmund starlet Jadon Sancho believed to be their top target for the summer.

This update, if true, is unlikely to be received well by the club’s fan-base, as the Reds have lacked a proper leader in their defence since the departures of Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, and Patrice Evra.

If Solskjaer fails to improve the team’s backline, it could genuinely end up costing the Old Trafford outfit in its bid to fight for major titles next season.
