Wilfried Zaha Claims Manchester United Tried To ‘Break Him’ And ‘Destroy His Career’

Wilfried Zaha has shed some light on the troubles he faced during his horrible spell at Manchester United. 

Zaha was Sir Alex Ferguson’s final signing for the Old Trafford club, although he never really played for the legendary Scot, having arrived at the club in the summer of 2013 alongside the then new gaffer, David Moyes.

However, the talented forward failed to establish himself at Manchester United, and his time with the Red Devils was riddled with prolonged spells on the sidelines and bizarre rumours, some even linking him with Moyes’ daughter.

Now, Zaha has once again looked back at his nightmarish stay at the Theatre of Dreams, and he has gone to the extent of claiming that Moyes’ staff tried to ‘break him in every way possible’ and ‘destroy his career for no reason’.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Crystal Palace star stated: “It was the opportunity of a lifetime. The chance to play for Manchester United. It was beyond anything I could have hoped for and I treated it that way. I tried my hardest in every training session to show what I could do.

“But when he took me out of the Champions League squad and put in Adnan Januzaj, who had never played for the first team, I knew then that this is way bigger than I ever thought and had gone way beyond footballing reasons. When it was not about football or ability, what could I do?”

The Ivory Coast international also went on to reveal that Moyes and co. ‘belittled’ him in training sessions, whilst also playing ‘mind games’ with him.

His troubles continued under Moyes’ successor as well, with Louis van Gaal deeming the player as ‘not good enough’, and sending him out on loan to Cardiff before an eventual departure.

“Wayne Rooney said to me ‘you’ve trained the best’,” Zaha recalled. “Then I go inside, have the meeting with them (LVG and Giggs) and they just said: ‘We just don’t think you’re good enough’. So I said ‘OK then, I just want to go on loan’.”
