Klopp Reveals How He Reacted To Lingard’s Miss Against Man City

Manchester United endured yet another defeat – the seventh in their last nine games – as they were beaten by their local rivals Manchester City 2-0 on their own turf.

Hopes of the entire Liverpool fanbase were pinned onto the Red Devils, who could have propelled the Merseysiders to the top of the Premier League table had they managed to secure a win or a draw against the Cityzens.

Reds’ manager Jurgen Klopp did follow the derby on Wednesday night through a television screen, and he has now shed more light on his experience of watching the game.

The German tactician first admitted that he did not expect Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men to actually beat the current league leaders, as he stated: “If anybody really thought that United, in the moment, are capable of hurting City – City are just too good for that.”

Klopp further went on to talk about a specific instance in the game that involved Jesse Lingard, who failed to kick the ball into the net from close range, much to the annoyance of two gigantic fan-bases.

The Liverpool boss added: “I watched the game in front of the television and I was not a little bit nervous. I was not like, ‘Oh my God, why did he do this? Lingard!’

“I don’t like watching these games because we have nothing to do with them. I like to have the ­information but that’s all. Everything is still fine and if somebody doesn’t believe any more then I can’t change that now.

“If you still believe then welcome to my club. I just want to play these three games and see what we get from them. I would love to have 97 points.

“If we have them then we played an outstanding season and whoever wants to say whatever about us, I couldn’t care less. Getting this amount of points would be special, but there is still a lot of work to do.”
