Having fallen down the pecking order at Manchester United since the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Romelu Lukaku looks set to depart from England this summer.

The star striker’s agent has already indicated that Lukaku wishes to play in the Serie A, and he has also been on the receiving end of huge interest from various Italian giants.

In fact, only last week, Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Inter made their first attempt to sign the Belgian international.

The San Siro club proposed a player plus cash deal, which would have seen Ivan Perisic head to Old Trafford.

However, Manchester United turned the swap offer down straightaway, as Perisic was a target for Jose Mourinho, and Solskjaer has no interest in recruiting the Croatian winger.

Further, the Red Devils only want cash for Lukaku, and have set a €70 million price tag on his services.

This huge fee could be a problem for Inter, as inability to use Perisic as makeweight in this deal now means they will have to find the cash to meet United’s demands.

The source does add that Inter successfully agreed terms with the 26-year-old striker in a meeting that took place in Milan ‘a few weeks ago’, wherein Lukaku even agreed to take a pay cut to potentially ‘marry’ into the Nerazzurri project.
