Lucas Moura Reveals Why He Rejected Manchester United In 2018

Lucas Moura has revealed that he turned down Manchester United in favour of a move to Spurs.

Lucas joined Tottenham Hotspur from Paris Saint-Germain back in January 2018, and he has since grown into an important player for the North London club.

The Brazilian international has played a crucial role for his side, particularly this season, with his hat-trick against Ajax in the Champions League semifinal single-handedly dragging Spurs to the final of Europe’s premier competition.

Ahead of Saturday’s final against Liverpool, the 26-year-old has shed light on the circumstances leading up to his transfer to Tottenham, and how it involved turning down English giants Manchester United.

Speaking to The Guardian, the wide-man revealed: “There was a conversation with United but it was for a loan and I didn’t want a loan. I thought that if I left PSG, I didn’t want to go back.

“When I came to Tottenham, and I saw the training ground and met the coach, I said that I wanted to come here.”

This wasn’t the first time the Red Devils had attempted to sign the pacey winger. In fact, he was also a top target for the club’s legendary gaffer, Sir Alex Ferguson.

In his 2015 book Leading, Sir Alex had revealed: “Right towards the end of my time at United we were pursuing Lucas Moura, the immensely talented right winger who, at the time, was playing in his native Brazil for Sao Paulo.

“We offered £24m for him, which was upped to £30m and again to £35m, but Paris Saint-Germain signed him for £45m. David and I were just not prepared to go to those sorts of levels.”
