James Maddison Wants To Meet Solskjaer To Discuss His Potential Role

Daniel James has been Manchester United’s sole transfer so far this summer. While the Red Devils continue to be linked with a host of talents and rumors keep stating that the side is close to announcing several deals, the entire situation does look quite dire for the time being.

It certainly appears that not having Champions League football to offer and playing poorly for the past few seasons has affected United’s ability to attract talent far more than they expected to heading into this window.

Despite that, there is one player who may be inclined to join.

According to Ian McGarry, Manchester United’s recent transfer target James Maddison may be inclined to discuss terms with the Red Devils. The former journalist discussed the future prospects of the Leicester City midfielder on the Transfer Window Podcast.

According to him, Maddison wants to be left alone until England’s U21 EUROs campaign ends. Following that, the 22-year-old would like to have a face-to-face meeting with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer himself.

The source adds that the attacking midfielder wishes to clarify what his role and position would be at the club before committing to a deal.

Apart from United, Tottenham and Liverpool are also believed to be interested in Maddison, whose pricetag was reported to be upwards of £60million.

Those very reports seem to have indicated that the youngster wouldn’t leave the Foxes just to be benched at Old Trafford and would instead prefer to be promised a first-team role. This seems evident even in the claims made by McGarry.

With the uncertainty surrounding Paul Pogba’s future and the Frenchman making it clear that he is willing to depart, United may be forced into the market for a central attacking midfielder. Maddison does fit Solskjaer’s ideal profile of a young British talent brimming with potential.
