Solskjaer Explains Why He Let Alexis Sanchez Join Inter On A Loan Deal

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained why he decided to let Alexis Sanchez leave this summer.

After a failed 18-month spell at Old Trafford, the Chilean international has finally secured a move to Italian outfit Inter Milan, albeit on a season-long loan deal.

The Red Devils received no transfer fee in exchange for the forward’s departure. In fact, they will continue to pay a large proportion of the 30-year-old’s £500,000-a-week salary.

While this switch looks like a huge loss for the Manchester club, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that this transfer is good news for all parties involved.

The Norwegian explained (via the Guardian): “Alexis needed to go – at the moment we know he’s been here for 18 months and it’s not really worked out for him.

“For him to restart and get himself playing regularly and scoring goals, that will only benefit everyone in the end. For us we’re going to watch every weekend to see Romelu and Alexis playing together. He [Sánchez] will come good for them.”

Ole also spoke about the players that will replace Alexis and Lukaku in his forward line, as he stated: “I’m trusting Anthony, Marcus, Mason to be our centre-forwards. We’ve got wingers in Chongy [Tahith Chong], Dan James, [Andreas] Pereira. We’ve loads of options.

“For me it’s time for our boys to feel that pressure and responsibility, to be more robust, to know they have to play five games in a row. I trust the fitness staff and medical staff and the pre-season work; we’re mentally and physically more ready. That’s the next step for our young players.”
