Manchester United have joined the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.

The Red Devils continue to struggle on the pitch—so much so, that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already admitted his side will look to dip into the winter transfer market to bring in apt reinforcements.

“We’re one or two players light, and we’ve said that, but if the right ones are available in January then we might do something,” the Norwegian told Sky Sports.

Now, it looks like the Mancunians are on the move, having joined the race for an in-demand central midfielder.

According to German outlet Bild, Manchester United are among several teams to have expressed interest in Monchengladbach’s 22-year-old sensation Denis Zakaria.

The Swiss international is wanted by the likes of Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Inter, meaning United will face stiff competition for his services.

Zakaria is a much-needed recruitment at the Old Trafford club, as he will slot in seamlessly as the long-term successor of Nemanja Matic.

United had attempted to strengthen their midfield by pursuing West Ham starlet Declan Rice and Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff in the summer, but both those chases ended in failure.

Will this time be any different?
