For the longest time this season, Manchester United looked to be on the brink of disaster.

While no one can truly label the club to be in a completely good spot at the moment, the fixtures of the previous month have really elevated spirits, with this international break marking one of the few moments where the Old Trafford outfit were in a semblance of any ease.

Amongst the catalysts of this change was the return to fitness for Anthony Martial which has immensely liberated Marcus Rashford’s abilities as a forward too.

However, the club is still in need of a backup option and now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have a big upcoming name in mind.

While previous reports did indicate the Norwegian to be interested in acquiring upcoming striker Erling Haaland, the Athletic have a claim that further strengthens that possibility.

Solskjaer apparently sent his ‘personal’ scout Simon Wells to monitor the 19-year-old in a recent Champions League fixture.

It is understood that the gaffer is intent on acquiring the youngster, whom he previously coached at Molde. However, this season’s goal-scoring prowess has also placed Haaland on the radar of several European giants and United are eager to get an edge.

Further, the player almost certainly won’t be signed in January, with a summer deal looking more apt, albeit at a pricetag that is already skirting the £90 million mark.

It is uncertain as of now whether Haaland is just a one-season wonder or truly a striker who is capable of functioning with swagger in the Premier League. Many renowned names across Europe have sought to make England their goalscoring arena and have failed to succeed.

Besides, there is no kidding that the Austrian Bundesliga is quite different from the Premier League. In that regard, the fact that the game allegedly scouted by United was a Champions League fixture does point some promise.
