How Robin van Persie Reacted After Seeing Solskjaer Smile Following Arsenal Defeat

Manchester United fans appear to be doomed to never settle into a period of calm. Excellent performances are almost always eclipsed by woeful displays a mere days later in a trend that has been the hallmark of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign of the club.

When the Red Devils traveled to the Emirates, very few would have expected that the game would have ended 2-0 in favor of the Gunners.
United’s in-form frontline was silent as Arsenal found goals through Nicolas Pepe and Sokratis Papastathopoulos in the first-half.

Fans have been fully disappointed with this result and have been especially surprised by the sheer contrast in the style of play of United.

However, Robin Van Persie found an extra reason to be frustrated with his former club and it was triggered by Solskjaer’s smile.

Speaking to BT Sport, Van Persie has this to say about Solskjaer smiling during his post-match interview: “I listen to Ole, he sounds like a really nice guy. But I would like to see him a bit more edgy, a bit more mean at times.”

He goes on to state precisely what was wrong with the gesture: “Yeah, sometimes, it’s part of his job as well. Just be angry. I see him smiling now, after a game like that, you know. This is not the moment to smile.”

The former Arsenal player even went on to state that there may be a lack of fear towards consequences and the manager in United’s dressing room, stressing that mentality and mindset may be the standout issue at the club.

Smiling or not, surely by now Solskjaer realizes that affair cannot stay this way and that the winter transfer window may be a last ditch effort to inject some consistency back into the squad.
