Roy Keane On Martial: ‘He Is Not Good Enough For United’
Manchester United suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool and it was nothing short of a miracle that the number stayed that low. Liverpool had 16 total attempts at Anfield while it took the Red Devils nearly 40 minutes to register their first shot on target.
Marcus Rashford’s injury meant that Anthony Martial was the only true attacking presence in the attacking trident and the lack of clinical ability in the final third was appalling.
In fact, Martial, on multiple occasions, could have put United out of their condition as goalless.
The most painful of these arrived in the second-half when a promising spell of play saw the Frenchman get into the Liverpool box in an incredible position but botch up the goalscoring opportunity by pulling the shot well wide.
The youngster knew his mistake immediately and his reaction was an apt indication of the full gravity of the missed shot.
However, Roy Keane took no prisoners and was critical of Martial, stating ( via Sky Sports): “That sums up his career in a nutshell. You hit that target. That’s why he’s not quite good enough for United. That moment summed him up.”

Strong words from Keane who went on to add: “Martial has come to Man Utd and the big strikers score in the big moments. The big strikers who are remembered by the supporters hit the target and the back of the net.”
While Keane is arguably being too hard on the forward, it is not untrue that Martial has been struggling to keep up with his numbers from earlier on. In fact, he has often been the weak link in the attack and the spirited moments of brilliance as a no.9 are few and inspire painful hope.
With Rashford’s injury reported to be a long-term one, the Frenchman will certainly have to sure up his game and score more goals for his side.
