The summer window held the standout name of Bruno Fernandes as a source of much frustration for fans of Manchester United. A similar brand of hope has been brandished this time around as well, with United trying to acquire the Portuguese midfielder but their efforts being stonewalled.

While the deal was expected to be done and dusted by last week, it is understood that a failure on part of both clubs to decide on an agreeable transfer fee for the attacking midfielder has put a pause on affairs. This is despite the reports that personal terms between United and the player have been agreed to.

Now, the fresh claims from the saga paint a picture of hope yet again.

As per the Mirror, Manchester United have made a breakthrough in talks with Sporting and could acquire Fernandes by the end of this week. This specific claim suggests that the Red Devils have returned to the negotiating table with a higher transfer fee and this has piqued the interest of the Portuguese outfit.

In this regard, the Old Trafford based club is allegedly willing to offer £55 million for the 25-year-old with £46.78 million being paid up-front and the rest arriving through add-ons. This is a considerable improvement to their prior bid which was believed to be in the range of £40 million alone.

Sporting, on the other hand, were thought to be holding out for a sum in the range of £60 million including add-ons but may budge now given their financial condition.

Incidentally, it is believed that United were willing to wait on the deal for even longer but Marcus Rashford’s recent long-term injury has now forced their hand to secure this transfer.

Fernandes does have a track record of scoring and Rashford’s absence paired with Paul Pogba’s recovery will necessitate the need for a regular source of goals.
