Manchester United’s winter acquisition of Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo certainly satisfied the numerical inadequacies that were in place at Old Trafford for a long time.

Fernandes’ arrival means that United now have a competent central midfielder around whom a team can be constructed. Meanwhile, Ighalo will provide the much-needed breathing space in selection for a tightly-stretched frontline.

However, both players are yet to see extensive action as Red Devils. While Bruno Fernandes did get a full game’s appearance during the uneventful 0-0 draw to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Ighalo is yet to make an appearance.

However, both fresh arrivals seem to have made a positive impact on the team, with Scott McTominay all praise for their ability and personality, stating (via Sky Sports): “They’re really, really nice guys. First and foremost they are good people and that’s what we need at this football club. We need good friends, who you can go out to dinner with. What they bring onto the football pitch – we’ve seen that. Hopefully they can bring a lot for us. First impressions are very good.”

Mentality is vital for a squad of United’s size and fame, especially given how toxic certain dressing rooms have gotten over the past years. It is crucial for these players to have the club’s DNA and ethos imbibed in them.

Speaking about his own lingering injury, McTominay adds: “I’m feeling good. I’m doing my best to be back on the pitch as soon as I possibly can. The gym work is tough, the running outside is tough. You just have to do your best.”

It will be fascinating to see how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is able to craft a lineup in which the likes of McTominay, Marcus Rashford, and Paul Pogba are fully fit as well as one wherein the new signings are duly accommodated.
