What Man City’s Gundogan Said About Bruno Fernandes After Derby Defeat

Manchester United are still reeling from the joy that was Sunday’s derby as they secured an excellent 2-0 victory against Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Goals from Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay sealed the win for the Red Devils who have now gone 10 games unbeaten in all competitions and even managed to notch their first League double over their noisy neighbors in over a decade.

Crucial to the win was Bruno Fernandes’ impeccable intelligence in quickly playing his free-kick short to Martial who had luck on his side as Ederson fumbled the shot to make it 1-0 to the home side.

However, the build-up to that free-kick was certainly ambiguous. Even though referee Mike Dean had awarded the set-piece on account of a foul by İlkay Gündoğan on the Portuguese midfielder, a degree of simulation was to be suspected from the same.

The Man City player himself thought as much, as he later opined: “There was frustration about the free-kick before the goal – it was not at all a foul. I just touched the ball and he (Fernandes) goes on the floor, shouting.”

The midfielder goes on to add: “I don’t even know if the referee saw it or just had a feeling that it was a foul. That was very disappointing for me, to be honest, because I was involved in the action and conceding the goal straight afterwards hurt very much.”

Fernandes has been impeccable for United so far this campaign and in just a short time he has made a tremendous change in the club’s fortunes. The recent accolades he has picked up further this degree of brilliance and moments like the one following the foul are a better testament of the player’s caliber than the alleged foul build-up.
