With Manchester United seemingly content at the moment with their regular players, Phil Jones has evidently lost his place in the squad following an injury inflicted year as he is the fourth choice for Solskjaer behind Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.

Accordingly, it’s only obvious that his name has appeared on the transfer market list, with Newcastle prepared to offer a deal for securing the defender at the end of this season. And as per the Mirror, the transfer could happen for a fee of as low as £12 million.

Chris Smalling is anticipated to return to the Theatre of Dreams by the end of the season from Roma when his loan contract expires. Plus, the youth asset Axel Tuanzebe is also assumed to receive more time on the pitch in the future, thereby rendering Jones’ future at United bleak.

After being a part of Gareth Southgate’s 2018 World Cup squad in Russia, the Englishman has deemed it very difficult to earn his way back into the national squad with relatively fewer appearances at United.

The 28-year-old, who has gone down the pecking order considerably this season, believes he deserves more game time and is hence expected to go along with the transfer at the end of this term, although his current contract at Old Trafford extends for three more years.

Joining Sir Alex Ferguson’s side during his teenage, the centre-back is a storehouse of experiences in Premier League and European competitions. Steve Bruce is thus looking forward to exploiting the English player’s similar attributes in the hopes of making an impact in the domestic league next season.

Nonetheless, Newcastle are expecting fierce competition from West Ham for the talented centre-back with David Moyes keen on securing the experienced defender.
