What Man Utd Fans Are Saying About Greenwood’s Performance vs Tottenham
Manchester United were unable to engineer a comeback away to Tottenham Hotspur with the final scoreline reading 1-1 on Friday. Steven Bergwijn netted the opener in the 27th minute and Manchester United were left attacking until Paul Pogba was brought into the fray and brought down by Eric Dier inside the box to win a penalty.
Bruno Fernandes was swift with converting the dead ball into a goal to equalize things. However, try as they did, the Red Devils failed to find the second goal despite exceptional chance after chance.
To aid the pursuit, all five substitutions were utilized by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood, and Odion Ighalo especially brought on to inject a creative spirit.
In particular, fans were tremendously impressed with Greenwood’s time on the pitch and the 18-year-old almost rewarded the trust placed with a last minute goal that was just shy of the target.
The source of praise on Twitter was particularly in contrast with how poor Daniel James was on the night.
Mason Greenwood really impressed me. It’s easy to forget he’s just 18-years old. He looked so secure on the ball and was gliding past players comfortably.
I was very impressed with him.

Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Mason Greenwood all have to start next game. No doubt about it.

If we’re being real Mason Greenwood is infinitely better than Daniel James. Time for Ole to consistently start a front 3 of Rashford, Martial & Greenwood starting against Sheffield United. pic.twitter.com/qSTIMCA0mk

While the pacey Welshman generally enjoys the backing of United’s fans, this game wasn’t his as he botched chances and failed to feed apt crosses to Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
There were also overly optimistic supporters who felt that a front three of Jadon Sancho, Rashford, and Greenwood ought to be the attacking future of United with the ace midfield duo of Fernandes and Pogba at the back.
Further, the overwhelming comment did appear to be one to trust Greenwood with more regular first team starts and ensure that he builds his confidence there.
With the plethora of games ahead and a fixture list potentially chalked full until late August, these supporters could certainly receive their wish if the Norwegian plays smart with his squad rotation.
