Van Dijk’s Reaction To Van de Beek Joining Manchester United
Virgil van Dijk has a message for his compatriot Donny van de Beek who is about to sign for Manchester United.
The Red Devils were able to make great strides in securing their first deal of the summer transfer window over the weekend. The Ajax player is currently with the Netherlands national side preparing for the Euro Nations League.
Once the finer details of the deal like paperwork, medical and an official announcement is done and dusted, van de Beek will join a formidable rank of midfielders at Old Trafford,
Partnered alongside the likes of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, the Premier League’s top defenders may have a hard time keeping their creative and attacking inputs at bay.
One of the top names in that regard, Virgil van Dijk, is already familiar with the 23-year-old as they play for the same country.
Thus when quizzed about the youngster joining United and whether he’d try to deter the move, the Liverpool centre-back had the following to say: “No. I wish Donny all the best. It’s fantastic for him and great for Dutch football. It’s another great step to another beautiful club for a Dutch player. The same goes for Nathan Ake.”
Mature words from the defender and certainly one that shows class and admiration for his compatriot.
Of course, it remains to be seen just how big of a difference his arrival to United makes in their hopes to someday compete for the title that Liverpool have finally made their own. The Red Devils are still clearly some time away from claiming that glory once more.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær may have to do more business to ensure that the likes of Van Dijk do not take next season’s title for granted as well.
