Confirmed: Chelsea In Talks To Sign €40m Shakhtar Attacker Alex Teixeira
Premier League champions Chelsea are in negotiations to sign Shakhtar attacker Alex Teixeira in the January transfer window, according to the Independent.
The Blues have struggled immensely this season with their lack of firepower up front. Diego Costa has looked merely a shadow of his former self, Radamel Falcao has proven to be an underwhelming loan signing and Loic Remy has not been given a consistent run of games to make an impact.
The Blues are therefore looking into the transfer market for lethal goalscorers, Teixeira being one of them.
Shakhtar manager Mircea Lucescu has revealed that Teixeira’s asking price is €40m at the moment, but that it will only increase as time goes by.
“Alex is now worth more than €40m,” said Lucescu.
“I think at the end of the season, were he to continue his performance, his value is €50m.
“If he were playing in a more competitive league, his transfer would be at the same level as that of Di Maria.”
The 25-year-old Brazilian has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe this season, scoring 22 goals in 15 appearances in the Ukrainian Premier League so far.
According to the Independent, Teixeira, who has never been capped internationally, has freely admitted that a move to England is “his dream”.
