Ferdinand Tells Manchester United Who They Must Sign

Manchester United must “do whatever it takes” to complete a deal for Everton centre-back John Stones, according to former England captain Rio Ferdinand.

Ferdinand has revealed that one of England’s brightest prospects, and in Rio’s opinion, ‘the best in the world,’ should make the move to Louis van Gaal’s side in the near future.

Louis van Gaal will attempt to lure France international Varane away from Real during the upcoming summer transfer window, according to the Manchester Evening News. The 22-year-old was signed by Jose Mourinho from Lens in 2011, and the Portuguese boss says he is the best defender in world football.

Stones meanwhile, has been linked with a £50m move to United, according to The Independent.

Chelsea had three bids for the 21-year-old rejected over the summer, and are expected to make a new offer, potentially as much as £50m, this month.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has denied there is an agreement with Stones that he can leave this summer if a suitable bid is made.

Ferdinand says United should make an offer which Everton find impossible to turn down.

“I don’t care how much it is, you get him. You are getting a player for 10 years,” Ferdinand said.

“Him and Raphael Varane are the best in the world, so I wouldn’t be looking at anyone else.

“The team starts at the back. Your platform for winning titles starts in defence.

“If he goes to another English club, they will regret it.”
