Ryan Giggs May Want To Keep English Midfielder Powell, says Steve Bruce

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has suggested that United’s assistant manager Ryan Giggs is fighting to keep England midfielder Nick Powell at the club, who is currently on loan at Hull City.

The Tigers wrapped up a loan move for Powell on transfer deadline day, but he is yet to feature for the Championship’s top club.

The 21-year-old was sent on loan to the Tigers in January on transfer deadline day after spending nearly 10 months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury and making just two appearances for the Red Devils this season.

Sir Alex Ferguson brought the former Crewe Alexandra player to Manchester United in his final summer at the club, but Powell has struggled with injuries during his time at Old Trafford and now, Powell’s next move is up in the air with his United contract set to expire in the summer.

But former Manchester United player and current Hull manager Steve Bruce thinks Ryan Giggs may want to keep the England midfielder – beyond the summer.

He said: “Manchester United have kept their options open and because he’s under 24 they can do.

“I don’t know if they’ve closed the door on him or not but maybe the key is what he does here between now and the end of the season.

“Mick Phelan knows him well and, of course, I spoke with Ryan Giggs at length about him.

“It’s fair to say that Ryan really likes him as a player. He’s only trained three times so we’re still seeing how he is physically. We have to manage him because it would be wrong of me to just throw him in if he’s not ready.

“He will enhance us, I’m sure of that. He’s already shown us in training why people have paid big money for him.

“You only have to watch him for a short while. He handles the ball well, he’s 6ft 2in, he’s quick, he’s got a lot of attributes that make a very good player.”

Nick Powell is yet to make his debut for the Tigers since he moved to the KC stadium.
