Paris Saint Germain defender Serge Aurier was arrested in Paris on Monday, according to reports.

The 23-year-old was taken into custody after having an alleged altercation with a police officer, which occurred in the Champs Elysees area. The Ivorian left a nightclub in the early hours of Monday along with his group, and they ended up insulting the officers patrolling in that area by making wounding remarks at them. A source described the incident to news outlet AFP, by stating that Aurier “insulted and struck a police officer”.

He was therefore taken to the police station situated in the 8th arrondissement of Paris at 06:00 CET, and was released after being held there for several hours.

This was not the first time the PSG star landed himself into a controversy by making insulting remarks. Earlier this year, in February, the defender make insulting remarks towards his coach Laurent Blanc, as well as his fellow teammates Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Angel di Maria, on a Periscope chat, for which he earned a lengthy ban which lasted up to six weeks.

Aurier explained his actions and apologised to the club for his actions by stating: “I made a big mistake, I am here to say sorry to the coach, the club and my team-mates, and to the supporters because they are the most important people.

“I want to apologise especially to the coach, I can only thank him for all he has done for me since I arrived in Paris. He wanted me and since I came here everything has gone really well. I owe him a lot and that is why I apologise sincerely to him for what was said, which I deeply regret.

“I will accept any sanction the club impose on me regarding this incident. I made a mistake, it was unforgivable and I am ready to face all the consequences.”

However, this incident was soon followed by another incident that took place in March, wherein Aurier posted a video of himself insulting the referee of PSG’s Champions League tie against Chelsea, for which he earned a three-game suspension by the UEFA.

And now, this latest incident seems to be the third strike for the right-back, and only time will tell what consequences await the youngster this time around.
