Trusted Spanish source Marca has provided the latest update on Eric Bailly’s transfer to Manchester United.

On Saturday, sports outlet AS broke out the news suggesting that Manchester United were on the verge of signing Villarreal centre-back Eric Bailly, and since then, numerous other news sources have jumped on the bandwagon, with even the trustworthy Sky Sports claiming that a deal between the Old Trafford club and the 22-year-old is within sight.

Eric Bailly joined La Liga outfit Espanyol at the age of just 17, and after making just five appearances, was snapped up by Villarreal. Following an impressive season, the Ivory Coast international is now set to head to the Theatre of Dreams for a fee of  €40 million. The youngster has had an impressive season, and has seen himself get linked with not only a move to Manchester United, but also the La Liga champions FC Barcelona.

As per reports from Saturday, Villareal’s promising defender will soon be becoming a Red Devil, as the conversations between Manchester United and Villarreal are believed to be at a “very advanced” stage, and a potential agreement is “very near”.

And now, Spanish outlet Marca have provided the latest update by claiming that Bailly is set to sign a contract with Manchester United as soon as he passes his medical examination with the club. The deal will be signed “in the coming hours”. In fact, Marca are so confident about the completion of this deal, that they have already began speculating as to who will replace Bailly in the heart of Villareal’s defence.

The report states that Bailly will be Jose Mourinho’s first Manchester United signing, but the defender does face tough competition from Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the “Mourinho’s first United signing” tag, as the star Swedish striker may also complete his free transfer to United by Tuesday.
