Manchester United To Axe Varela And Blackett

Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, is believed to be planning the exit of Guillermo Varela and Tyler Blackett, as the Portuguese man has no plan of having them in his 22-man squad, reports Sky Sports.

The defensive duo was only recently brought into the United squad, following the team’s lack of defensive options after the departure of Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra.

Louis van Gaal handed Blackett and Varela their debuts for the club back in the 2014-15 season – the Dutchman’s first year in charge of the Red Devils.

The former United manager was impressed by Tyler Blackett’s performances for the first team and as a result, featured him in 12 of Manchester United’s games that season.

Blackett was then loaned out to Celtic for the 2015-16 season, and it seems that Mourinho will be looking to get rid of the young center back for good this season.

Guillermo Varela signed for the Red Devils back in 2013, and his transfer fee was rumored to be around €3 million. The Uruguayan full-back was handed his first team debut in 2015, and also played a full UEFA Champions League match a few days later.

Jose Mourinho is still willing to promote other younger players to the first team squad. He is believed to have picked two players from the academy that he would like to integrate into the first team squad.

Full-back Timothy Fosu-Mensah, and center back Axel Tuanzebe, are two players that Mourinho will be looking to work with from the Youth squad, according to Sky Sports.

Fosu-Mensah has already been given his first team debut by former manager Louis van Gaal. The 18-year-old impressed during his Old Trafford debut, and received a lot of praise from the manager.

He has played in central defensive, left back, and midfield positions – and impressed in all. The versatile player could become a key man for United in the coming years.

Axel Tuanzebe is yet to break into the first team squad, but supporters are eagerly waiting to see the 18-year old’s qualities.
