Mourinho To Sacrifice Mata To Make Way For Pogba

Paul Pogba’s return to Manchester United is currently the most talked-about transfer story in world football.

The rise to this speculation was marked when Sky Sports’ trusted Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio revealed that the Red Devils were readying a world transfer record-breaking offer worth £100 million to re-sign their youth academy graduate.

The report further stated that United were willing to offer the France international €13m-per-season in wages, and that his agent, Mino Raiola, would be presenting the offer to Juventus following the conclusion of the Euro 2016 tournament.

However, there have now been new developments in this transfer story.

According to the Sunday People, Jose Mourinho is set to offload Juan Mata from his squad yet again, and will thereby offer the Spanish international to Juventus, as a makeweight to enforce the Paul Pogba transfer.

Juan Mata joined Manchester United for a fee of £37.1 million back in January 2014, when Mourinho decided that the play-maker was surplus to his requirements at Chelsea.

Mata has since been a mainstay in the United side under both David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, but now sees his future at the Old Trafford club threatened due to the arrival of Jose Mourinho.

But it looks like his cause to feel threatened was justified all along, as emerging reports suggest Mourinho wants to use him as a bargaining chip to reduce the £100 million valuation the reigning Italian Champions have slammed on their French midfielder.

This move would work in favour of Juventus as well, as they have been looking for a traditional number 10 for quite a while.

Mata has scored 26 goals in 104 games for Manchester United, and is an absolute favourite within the fans as well as in the dressing room. So if the 28-year-old does indeed get sacrificed to make way for Pogba, it remains to be seen how the fans and the players would react to this move.
