Jose Mourinho says he is “really confident” on signing his fourth player.
Mourinho was questioned by the media in Shanghai, where he and his squad are currently on tour.
The Manchester United manager was reluctant to make a statement on the imminent arrival of French International, Paul Pogba. Instead, Jose said: “I can’t confirm and I don’t deny.”
Jose went on to express his faith and confidence in Manchester United’s executive, Ed Woodward. The Red Devils’ manager gave his club executive four player profiles that he believes will balance the current squad.
Three of the player profiles have already been met, with the signings of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Here is what Jose Mourinho said during his interview, ahead of his second match in charge of Manchester United:
“I don’t confirm and I don’t deny. I cannot tell you! First of all, because I don’t think it’s correct to speak about players from other clubs, and he is a Juventus player not a Man United player.
“The only thing I can say is that my board, my directors did fantastic work to do 75 percent of the job I asked them to do. I gave them four profiles of players we need, and I gave them a few options, and they did for me 75 per cent of the job with Ibrahimovic, Mkhitaryan, and Bailly.
“And we have just 25 percent to do until 31 August so we are in great conditions to have what I would consider a good market.
“So we are calm, we know the profile of player we want. We have three faces that fill that profile and I’m really confident that [Ed] Woodward and the owners will bring me that profile of player that I think the squad needs to have a good balance.”
Mino Raiola, Paul Pogba’s agent, has claimed there is no deal in place with United.
He tweeted: “There is no deal done regarding Paul Pogba, lots of bla bla bla.”
However, Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sports and Guardian believes the deal is only not done because Manchester United and Juventus are missing agreement for Mino Raiola’s fee.
