Names Of Premier League Clubs Chasing Manolas Revealed

Konstantinos ‘Kostas’ Manolas, Italian club Roma’s Greek defender, has been linked with a move away from the Rome-based club.

Manolas joined the club in the 2014-2015 season from Greek club Olympiacos, for a fee estimated to be €15m. Kostas has since become a key figure in Roma’s defence, and is also rated among Serie A’s best defenders.

Manolas had been linked with Manchester United in the current transfer window. Their neighbours Manchester City have been linked with Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci this summer, whilst also being named among the clubs chasing Kostas Manolas, by his agent.

Ioannis Evangelopoulos, Manolas’ agent, has revealed that apart from Manchester United and City, Antonio Conte’s Chelsea are in the race to sign Manolas too.

He was quoted by Il Tempo as saying “The best clubs in Europe want him. There isn’t just Manchester City, but also United and Chelsea. I haven’t spoken with Roma for a while.”

Manchester City have 35-year-old Martin Demichelles, an injury prone Kompany, inconsistent Mangala and an in-form Otamendi. New manager Pep Guardiola will be looking for a suitable partner for Otamendi in the heart of defence, and Manolas looks to be the man he finds perfect for the job.

Manchester United have an in-form Chris Smalling, injury prone Phil Jones, error prone Marcos Rojo, makeshift centre back Daily Blind, and their latest acquisition Eric Bailly. They will be looking to add experience to their ranks, and the 25-year-old Manolas has emerged as the perfect target.

Chelsea only have Cahill, an aged John Terry and Frenchman Zouma as established defenders, and the former Italy coach will need another defender if he wants to play his regular 3 at the back formations.

Kostas Manolas has decent pace, is a good tackler and a great header of the ball. He will be an asset to any club he chooses to join.
