Chelsea Look To Sign Uruguayan Forward

Edinson Cavani signed for PSG in the summer of 2013, for a fee reported to be around €64m, making him the sixth most expensive signing in history.

After signing from Napoli, Cavani has mostly played second fiddle to the now Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Cavani often used to be deployed out of position – on the wings, where he isn’t very effective.

With the big Swede’s departure to Manchester United this summer, Cavani looks to be the favourite to fill the void Ibrahimovic left. According to French media outlet Le 10 Sport, he is going to decline the opportunity to be Unai Emery’s main forward.

According to the report, newly appointed Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is interested in signing Edinson Cavani, with the 29-year-old apparently ready to leave PSG for a new challenge in the Premier League.

According to the Sun, Chelsea have seen a £63m bid for Spaniard Alvaro Morata rejected by Real Madrid, and with Diego Costa’s move back to Spanish club Atletico Madrid looking closer, the Blues boss has decided to reinforce his strike force.

After successfully acquiring the services of 22-year-old Belgium international Mitchy Batshuayi, the Italian wants to target the former Napoli man Cavani. The signing of the Uruguay international will provide the perfect balance of youth and experience to Chelsea’s attack.

Cavani has already rejected moves from Chelsea and Manchester City in the past to stay with Napoli. It has to be seen if PSG accept the bid, and if the move does go through, how quickly Cavani adapts to the new league.
