Man Utd Target Turkish Midfielder

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United boss José Mourinho is interested in signing Turkish midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup.

Ozyakup currently plays for Besiktas in the Turkish league. He is a product of the Arsenal Academy and AZ Alkmaar Academy, and made his competitive first-team debut for Arsenal in a League Cup tie against Shrewsbury Town. The youngster was also on the bench for Arsenal when they lost 8-2 to Manchester United in 2011.

Besiktas completed the signing of Ozyakup in June 2012, for a fee in the region of €500,000.

The Turkey international has raked in a total of 22 goals and 32 assists in 142 games for the Turkish club. He also had one assist in two games for Arsenal, taking his career tally to 22 goals and 33 assists from 144 games.

The 23-year-old registered 9 goals and 7 assists, and created 60 chances last season in the Turkish Super League. He contributed to his team defensively too, by making 59 interceptions and winning 41 tackles. His efforts helped Besiktas win the Turkish Super League.

His recent performances have attracted the interest of many European clubs, including Manchester United. The newly appointed Red Devils boss José Mourinho is keen to sign him, according to the Daily Star.

As per the source, United are keen on the former Arsenal youth academy product, who is currently valued at £16.8 million.

The Black Eagles will be looking to retain the services of Ozyakup, also nicknamed Ozzy. Besiktas recently sold their star Gokhan Tore to West Ham United, and will not look to sell another important player from their title winning team. And with the club qualifying for the Champions League, Ozyakup will most definitely play an important role.
