Arsenal Considering Shock £15m Bid For Jonny Evans

Arsenal are planning a shock £16 million move to bring Jonny Evans to the Emirates, according to the Mirror.

Arsene Wenger is on the look-out for a quality central defender, and he has identified Evans as his prime target. The Gunners boss, having been rattled by news that Per Metersacker faces up to 4 months on the sidelines with a knee injury sustained in a pre-season friendly against Lens, will be desperate to plug the hole in his defense.

Evans joined West Brom from Manchester United for £8m, and impressed in his first season at the Hawthorns.

He managed to keep up his club form for his country, as Northern Ireland reached the last 16 of Euro 2016 before eventually facing defeat at the hands of Wales. Overall, he made 42 appearances for both club and country last season, and even managed to grab a goal and an assist to his name.

The defender left Old Trafford in search of first team football, after being used sparingly by Louis van Gaal at Manchester United. In his first season at West Brom, he featured as a center-back as well as a left-back, under Baggies boss Tony Pulis.

Arsene Wenger will have to keep in mind that Evans is far from injury prone himself, but will be encouraged by the season the Northern Irishman enjoyed last year.

Bournemouth are also known to be interested in the defender, and may look to sign him before the new Premier League season, which kicks off in 12 days.
