Italian Journalist Emanuele Giulianelli has revealed that Antoine Griezmann was open to a move to Arsenal, but Wenger’s side couldn’t meet his price tag.

Emanuele Giulianelli is a reliable journalist, working for Gazzetta Dello Sport, who always brings the correct news, and this time is no different.

He recently tweeted on his personal account that Antoine Griezmann was wanted by Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, however, the player wasn’t interested in either switch.

Instead, Griezmann preferred a move to North London side, Arsenal. But he then stated that the switch did not happen because of the amount of money involved.

It is believed that Atletico Madrid want at least £84 million for the Frenchman (his buyout clause). Therefore, it is unlikely that Arsene will be looking to break his current transfer record – £38.2 million for Mesut Ozil.

The 25-year-old recently signed a new contract, which will keep him in the Spanish capital till the year 2021. He has been in sublime form, scoring 32 goals in his previous 54 appearances. The French attacker also helped his club reach the 2016 Champions League final, where they lost to their neighbors Real Madrid, in Milan.

Griezmann also represented his national side in the Euro 2016 which took place a few months ago. He ended the competition as top scorer, but couldn’t help his side win the tournament, even though he played in the final against Portugal.

Arsene Wenger will now have to turn his attention to another striking option, with Alexandre Lacazette being his new target. He has already missed out on Leicester pair Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez. Wenger also failed to sign Gonzalo Higuain, who instead joined Juventus for an enormous £75 million.

Wenger has been looking for a new attacking option since the opening of the transfer window, but the French manager will have to work faster if he is to succeed in his pursuit.
