Gabriel has been widely regarded as the brightest young talent in South America at the moment, with the media already labelling him “the Next Neymar.”

Guardiola will be looking forward to working with the young attacker, who managed to bag 26 goals in his 67 appearances for Palmeiras – quite impressive for a teenager.

He is best known for his commanding pace and agility, and he even received praise from Brazil’s Ronaldo – who predicted that Gabriel is destined for greatness in the national team.

Gabriel Jesus is City’s newly appointed manager Pep Guardiola’s sixth signing, after Ilkay Gundogan, Aaron Mooney, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Nolito, and German youngster Leroy Sané.

The Brazilian starlet told City’s official website: “Manchester City is one of the best clubs in the world so I’m really pleased to sign.

“We have many great talents in the team and a fantastic manager in Pep Guardiola that I can learn so much from.

“I’m looking forward to showing the City fans what I can do and I think we’ll have a great future together.”

The 19-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with City.

Jesus, who can play as a striker as well as on the wings, scored 19 goals in 30 games last season.

City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, said: “We are delighted that Gabriel has chosen to join us.

“He is one of the most exciting young prospects in world football and plays the game in a spectacular way. We look forward to him making a big impact at Manchester City in January.”

The Brazilian is currently with his teammates for the upcoming Rio Olympics. A lot rests on him and his teammates to take the home advantage and finally win the only trophy that has eluded Brazil.
