Ashley Young Rumoured To Be Joining Crystal Palace

Manchester United winger Ashley Young is being heavily linked with a switch to Crystal Palace this summer.

Young reportedly took a train to London earlier in the day, and a United fan has claimed that his friend, who works for Virgin Trains, had a picture taken with the Englishman, and and claimed he was on his way to speak with Palace about a transfer.

Twitter user ‘@50SavesOfDeGea’ posted a tweet, which read: “Ashley young pictured with my mate who works for virgin. En route to London. Apparently palace is the destination – Mo Ruddy”.

The tweet has since been deleted, but not before other twitter users managed to save the image and post it online again.

Ashley Young was left out of the squad that beat Leicester City 2-1 to win the Community Shield at Wembley. Jose Mourinho however, dedicated the trophy to Young and the other players who missed out.

Mourinho told BT Sport: ‘I want to dedicate this victory to eight people.

‘Seven of my players that were not selected because they weren’t but they deserved to be. They worked hard to be but I had to make changes so people like Ashley Young, [Phil] Jones, all of them not selected, this is to them.

‘And also for the person which allowed us to be here today which is Louis van Gaal because he won the FA Cup and without him we wouldn’t be here now celebrating.’

Ashley Young moved to Old Trafford from Aston Villa in 2011. He had a superb first season with the club, but after suffering an injury later that year, he never really found his form again, and struggled. He was was victim to a mass outrage from United fans who grew disgruntled with the winger, and was subject to much criticism from many fans and pundits alike.

Under Louis van Gaal, however, Young was reinvented as a left-back and became a crucial player to The Red Devils under the Dutchman. His form improved dramatically, and after Luke Shaw suffered a double fracture to his leg in a Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven, the 31-year-old became United’s first choice left-back.

However, Shaw has recovered from his injury, and looks set to be a mainstay at full-back, which could see Young spending more time on the bench.

Should he make the move to The Eagles, it would spark questions regarding the future of winger Yanick Bolasie, who has been subject to interest from several clubs.
