Manchester United Star Subject To Stoke City Interest

Stoke City are reportedly interested in the possibility of signing Manchester United defender Phil Jones.

Jones has struggled for game time at United for the last few years, with niggling injuries hindering his progress.

However, now that he is fit, he is desperate to get some game time. But with new summer signing Eric Bailly putting up terrific displays at the heart of United’s defense, and Daley Blind and Chris Smalling all preferred over the Englishman, he may struggle to get any sort of game time whatsoever.

Mourinho has been regularly speaking about how sorry he feels for not being able to use a majority of his team, with the likes of Memphis Depay, Marcus Rashford, Ashley Young, Marcus Rojo, Matteo Darmian, and Jones himself failing to play a part in any of United’s games so far.

He has stated that every player will get their chance to impress when the cup competitions start in September, with United being involved in the Europa League as well as the League Cup and the FA Cup.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes refused to rule out the possibility of signing Jones this summer, and is reported to have even asked a journalist whether the 24-year-old was in attendance for the game against Manchester City, which they lost 4-1.

Jones last played for United’s first team in January against Swansea, but was withdrawn at half time due to injury.

He signed for the club for £16 million in the 2011/12 season, and Sir Alex Ferguson rated the then 19-year-old so highly that he even went on to declare that Jones could go on to become the greatest player to have ever played for Manchester United.

His struggle with fitness issues have meant that he is nowhere near achieving the potential Sir Alex saw in him yet.

His failure to stay fit and get games for his club has also affected his international career, as he was left out of Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad.

He should go to where he can find more game time. It will be difficult for him at united.
