Stoke Eye Phil Jones Swoop After Failed Sakho Attempt
Stoke City had hoped to bring Liverpool defender, Mamadou Sakho, on loan to the Bet365 Stadium, but seem to be on the lookout for Phil Jones now.
Mark Hughes wants to toughen up the Stoke City defense before the close of the transfer window this week, and hoped that Liverpool would allow Mamadou Sakho to sign a loan deal with the Potters.
However, Sakho denied a move away from Anfield, and instead opted to stay and help Liverpool in the upcoming season.
Manchester United outcast, Phil Jones, is believed to be Hughes’ next target, as it seems Jose Mourinho isn’t going to offer the player much play time this season.
Phil Jones would be tempted by the promise of first team football at Stoke, although there is no information at the moment as to whether this will be a loan deal or a permanent transfer.
Jose Mourinho has already made it clear to Jones that he will not be first choice in the United back four.
Manchester United’s summer signing, Eric Bailly, seems to have already established himself in the first team squad, and is becoming a favorite among the United fans, having put in three man-of-the-match winning performances.
Jones, who was highly anticipated to become one of the best defenders in England, has failed to secure a first-team spot, as the England international suffered from various injuries and massive dips in form.
Hughes is also hoping to complete the transfer of Saido Berahino from West Brom. The move looks likely to happen, as West Brom are looking to use the money from the sale of Berahino to secure the signatures of Nacer Chadli and Ignacio Camacho.
The Potters are hoping to close a £20 million deal for Berahino before the end of the summer transfer window.
