Mario Balotelli has hit back at Jamie Carragher on twitter, calling the Liverpool legend a “wonderful hater”.
Carragher had ridiculed Balotelli on the popular social media website, after it was confirmed that the Italian striker had signed a one-year deal with Ligue 1 club Nice.
He posted a tweet that read: “Balotelli on a free is still paying over the odds by Nice.”
However, the controversial striker hit back with a tweet of his own, which read: “Jamie Carragher, bad player, wonderful hater @Carra23 ,who cares” under a picture of a gold trophy with the words “Best Hater” on it.
Balotelli was frozen out by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp this season, as the forward’s failure to control his behaviour off the pitch while putting up languid displays on it proved too much for the Merseyside club to handle.
He was sent to train with the Reds’ Under-21 team until Nice took him out of his misery by signing him on a one-year deal.
This is not the first time Carragher has been critical of the Italian. Speaking to the Daily Mail in March, he said: “I can’t believe we signed Mario Balotelli! The thing with Balotelli is everyone always says it’s the off-the-field antics, but I wouldn’t care if he was doing it on the pitch.
“People tell me he’s got talent but I can’t remember him having a good game.”
In his introductory press conference, Balotelli insisted that Nice were not taking a risk by signing him.
“My career in football is very different from what has been written about me ever since I was 16 so I don’t think I am a risk.
“In the last two years the only problem has been the lack of game time due to physical problems. I don’t think I am a gamble at all – I have to be right physically and to do that, I only have to play. I only need to play regularly – mentally I am fine.
“I am not old. I am no longer young but now I have a certain experience and I hope to make that available to the team.”
