Arsenal Have Identified New Thierry Henry

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed he is keeping a close eye on Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe, the player he thinks could be “another Thierry Henry”.

Mbappe has burst into life at Monaco over the past 18 months, since his Ligue 1 debut at the age of 16 and went on to become Henry’s successor as the French club’s youngest goalscorer at 17.

The Under-19 Frenchman penned a new contract with Monaco only last year, which would see him stay at the Stade Louis II until 2019, as the Ligue 1 side managed to tie down one of their valuable prospects despite strong European interest.

But that didn’t stop scouts to monitor him regularly and as Mbappe continues to prove his talent, with six goals and seven assists in 19 appearances this season. And now, several suitors are waiting for the summer window to snap him up.

Now Wenger has admitted that Arsenal are also chasing young forward, who he reckons a “super talent”.

“He is not exactly Thierry Henry but it is true that he has similar qualities and the future and talent is similar,” Wenger declared, speaking to the Ligue 1 show.

“The potential is similar, after that if he has the same level of motivation, desire and intelligence that Thierry has, and the next two to three years will tell us that, then he can be very promising.

“The guys that have super talent are already playing at 18. Those who are not playing at 18 or 19 do not have that exceptional talent and he does play over here at the top level.

“He is a guy who is electric like Thierry was, can dribble, can pass and is efficient.

“We follow him, we know him very well, and he is developing well. He extended his contract with Monaco last season and so it’s Monaco who is going to decide his future. He could be another Thierry Henry.”
