Manchester United 3-0 St Etienne: Player Ratings
Manchester United kicked off their Europa League knockout stage campaign with an emphatic win over St Etienne, thanks to a hattrick from Red Devils’ star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Here’s how Jose Mourinho’s men fared during the game:
SERGIO ROMERO – 6
Was hardly tested, but did the job between the sticks.
ANTONIO VALENCIA – 6
Was good as he usually is – both in defence and on the attack.
ERIC BAILLY – 6
Lost the ball more than once early in the game, but made up for it with some good tackles and interceptions. Got booked towards the end, and will miss the next game.
CHRIS SMALLING – 6
Rock at the back, played his part in the clean sheet.
DALEY BLIND – 6
Did the job at left-back, but came close to giving away a silly penalty in the first half. Did whip in a dangerous free-kick which Pogba almost converted.
ANDER HERRERA – 7
Was a livewire in the middle of the park. Becoming a key man for Mourinho with each passing game. Did pick up a yellow, and will miss the next game.
PAUL POGBA – 7
Was the superior Pogba on the night. Dominated the midfield, but was unlucky to hit the post with his headed effort.
MAROUANE FELLAINI – 5
Failed to provide anything other than his immense physical presence, for which he was rightly subbed off at the break.
JUAN MATA – 6
Pulled some strings from midfield, and his intelligent movement caused problems.
ANTHONY MARTIAL – 9
Absolutely tormented the St Etienne full-back with his pace and skills. Nearing his best.
ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC – 8
Came back to haunt the French outfit with a hat-trick on the night, as his impressive scoring record for Manchester United continues.
