Victor Lindelof Signs New Contract With Benfica
Manchester United are set to miss out on their top transfer target Victor Lindelof this summer.
Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United dropped a couple of points in the Premier League this weekend but are within touching distance of a place in the top-4 in the points table.
The manager is convinced that his team will play in Europe next season and is already looking to add some top transfer targets to the squad at the club.
But one player who he might not be able to get his hands on is Benfica defender victor Lindelof.
Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Daly Blind and Eric Bailly have all played as a center back this season for Manchester United and Mourinho was determined to land the 22-year old in the summer.
But according to an official statement from Benfica, Lindelof’s current club, he has signed a new long term contract to stay at the club for years to come.
A report submitted by the club read: “Benfica chose to extend the employment relationship with Lisandro López for three more sports seasons until June 30, 2021, and with Victor Lindelof until the end of the 2020/2021 season.”

The Red Devils have been desperate for his signature and have sent scouts to watch him regularly this season but Mourinho will now have to look elsewhere for defensive additions at the end of the season.
Lindelof was a top transfer target for Mourinho in January itself and reports around the country claimed that the Red Devils have verbally agreed a deal of £38m for a move in the summer.
But Benfica were always adamant that he is not for sale and have now given Manchester United a slap on their face, getting Lindelof to sign a long term deal.
Benfica are currently at the top of the table in domestic league in Portugal and Lindelof is now determined to help the club in their European journey next season.
Who do you think Mourinho will target for this summer after being snubbed by Lindelof?
