Aitor Karanka Tells Pep Guardiola: ‘Jose Mourinho Is Better Than You’

Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka has claimed that Jose Mourinho is a much better manager than Pep Guardiola, and that too a day before his side takes on Manchester City.

Aitor Karanka, who previously worked as Mourinho’s assistant at Real Madrid, is all set to go head-to-head with Guardiola as their teams clash in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. But the Boro boss seems to have begun firing shots already, after comparing Pep with the Special One during his pre-match press conference.

Karanka told the media (via Mirror): “Is Pep the best coach in the world? No. The best coach in the world is Jose Mourinho.

“He has shown it during his career at Porto, at Inter Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United. He was the best in Spain, and he still is the best. Jose started this season with some criticism, but he has already won a trophy for United. Jose is the best for me.

“I think Guardiola has to win the Premier League to show he is one of the best ever. He has shown he can win titles in Spain and in Germany, and he probably thought he’d do the same in England.

“I think he’s realised that this is a different football, a different league, and he has grasped how difficult the challenge is. It’s taking him time to adapt and it’s not been easy for him.

“It’s difficult when you arrive in a new country, with a new philosophy where a lot of things are different. He has some very good players, but the mentality here is different. Things are different and it takes time to adjust.”
