Manchester United 1-0 FC Rostov: Player Ratings

Manchester United managed to beat FC Rostov 1-0 at Old Trafford on Thursday to win the tie with an aggregate score of 2-1 and proceed through to the quarterfinals of the competition. Juan Mata scored past an extremely defensive Rostov team to bag the only goal on the night for the Red Devils.

Here’s how the entire United side fared against the Russian opponents:

Sergio Romero – 6
Did his job between the sticks.

Antonio Valencia – 8
One of United’s biggest offensive threats for the whole 90 minutes.

Eric Bailly – 6
Didn’t have much to do, but was eager to defend whenever called upon.

Chris Smalling – 6
Distributed the ball well.

Marcos Rojo – 6.5
Another good game as a left-sided center-back. Almost opened the scoring for his team with a terrific header.

Daley Blind – 6
Got lots of opportunities to attack down the left, but failed to capitalise on them due to poor delivery of the ball.

Ander Herrera – 6
Another busy night in the middle of the park for the Spaniard.

Paul Pogba – 7
Orchestrated the midfield and came close to scoring himself with a good shot towards the end of the first half. Was subbed off early in the second half due to minor hamstring issues.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 7
Should have gotten on the scoresheet himself, and he almost won a penalty for his side. His cross led to United’s goal.

Juan Mata – 8
Created some great chances with his sublime passing and vision, and scored the crucial goal that helped the Reds seal the tie. Man of the Match.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 7
Hit the woodwork on two occasions, and assisted Mata’s goal with a crucial flick.

SUBSTITUTES:

Marouane Fellaini – 6
Did the job he was sent on to do.

Phil Jones – 5
Looked out of position as a left wing back.
