The Catalan radio network are claiming that Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli will not be the replacement for Luis Enrique on the Barcelona dugout.

Since Luis Enrique announced he will be leaving Barcelona at the end of the season, speculation has always been rife about who will be the next man to replace the Asturian on the Camp Nou bench. Athletic Club’s Valverde and Sampaoli were eyed as two of the leading candidates identified by the La Liga giants.

However, ‘Catalunya Radio’ as confirmed by Marca are now reporting that the argentine manager is no longer eyed an option as he is thought to be looking to extend his stay at current club Sevilla. Sampaoli enjoys a great fan-base and was the Barcelona supporters’ favourite for the role. He was also favourably viewed among members of the current playing squad, especially Lionel Messi.

Latest reports say the former Chile boss’ lack of experience in Europe coupled with his lack of knowledge of the Catalan club stand against him in comparison with the other candidates.

Sampaoli was left frustrated to see how his Sevilla boys were ousted from the Champions League by Leicester City, with the Andalusian outfit now focused on a league title fight. While being questioned over his future at Sevilla after Champions League heartbreak, Sampaoli stated: “I’m hurting and can only foresee my self-lying awake with the reality that our dream is over”

Sevilla’s surprise defeat to Leicester City on Tuesday and back-to-back La Liga draws, which have seen them lose ground on Real Madrid and Barcelona in the title race, have actually seen Sampaoli’s chances diminish this week.
