Manchester United are closing in on Napoli star Dries Mertens, who is ‘80% – 90%’ sure to quit Italy in summer.
The Red Devils are one of the many Premier League clubs set to be busy this summer, trying to add quality start to their squad to compete next season.
Jose Mourinho, the current manager at the club, is determined to add numbers to various positions in his squad, and has been linked with some of the biggest names in Europe.
The winger turned striker has been in sensational form at the Stadio San Paolo this season, but is yet to reach an agreement with the Italian outfit over a new deal.
Napoli are reportedly ready to offer him a new deal which will see him earn twice his current weekly wages, but Mertens has decided to snub offers from the club in search of new challenges this season. His current deal expires at the end of the next season, so the Naples-based outfit have no other option but to sell him this summer if he does not pen a new deal.
Reports now suggest that the player and his representatives have been in talks over the phone with the Premier League outfit, and are convinced that it is a decent option for the attacker for the next season.
The 30-year old has been in sensational form this season for Napoli, scoring 25 goals and picking up 11 assists in 36 games in all competitions this season.
He has played in a striker’s role at Naples, but is expected to be shifted into a wider position at Old Trafford. But do you think United will land him this summer?
