Jose Mourinho criticizes Portuguese star Renato Sanches and suggested that the youngster made a mistake by joining Bayern Munich.

The 19-year old is one of the most exciting talents in Europe at the moment and was linked with a move to Manchester United under the previous manager Louis van Gaal. However, United were not able to land him as Sanches secured a move to the Allianz Arena at the start of the campaign.

And Jose Mourinho has today spoken about the teenager and his chances in Germany.

Having made just five starts in the Bundesliga this season, Sanches is struggling for playing time at the moment and Mourinho today criticized his decision to join a club like Bayern.

The Portuguese tactician said, “We want the young boys to play and to perform. At the same time, the best teams want to win and it is difficult to win with the learning curve of the young boys.

“You go to other clubs where young players are being developed. It’s easy when there is no pressure playing in mid-table where you can win today, lose tomorrow. It’s different at big clubs.

“There is a Portuguese kid, Renato Sanches, who is a European champion. But he doesn’t play in Bayern Munich.

“The last match he played, they lost to Hoffenheim. Will he play in the Champions League quarter-finals? I have my doubts. You know, there are contradictions in all of us,” Mourinho added.

The Portuguese manager also revealed that he was interested in his signature but went on to claim that he only joined United in May, which was too late to get Sanches.

“I arrived late,” Mourinho said. “I signed in May, we started talking a week before, but completely out of the process. If I had arrived earlier, I’d fight for him.

“Manchester United watched Renato many times and maybe I did it even more. In so much time at home, I watched many Benfica and Portuguese league games, I got to know the boy better with time,” he added.
