Liverpool Legend Graeme Souness Picks His Player Of The Season

Liverpool great Graeme Souness is of the opinion that Zlatan Ibrahimovic should be named Player of the Season in the Premier League.

The big Swede has been phenomenal this season, netting 28 goals across all competitions, including the winner in the League Cup final.

Zlatan talks up a good game, makes sure that he matches it with his abilities on the field. This has impressed Souness, who thinks he should be the player of the season.

“I would make him my player of the season simply because he is 35 years old, he has single-handedly kept them (United) in lots of competitions.

“I said at the start of the season that Zlatan had to play well, had to be the main man for United and then United would have a good season as I thought they would struggle to get goals – and that is how it has turned out, ” the Scotsman said to Sky Sports.

The former Liverpool skipper also commended the Swede’s attitude.

“I love his attitude because he gives a calming effect to the lesser lights – ‘Do not worry, Zlatan’s here’ – and he has single-handedly dragged the club into a healthy position, and they have won one trophy.

“I would imagine in the dressing room he is fabulous, a manager’s dream.

“I love someone who can back up what he says and he can certainly do that, so he is my player of the year,” he concluded.

Zlatan has indeed been United’s best player this season, single-handedly winning them matches, or saving them from blushes. Only Juan Mata and Paul Pogba have more than 3 goals other than him for United in the Premier League this season.

With someone like Souness, a captain and manager of Liverpool, United’s biggest rivals, giving him such praise, there can be no doubt about the striker’s impact.
