The Red Devils are currently in the fifth place in the points table, four points off a place in the top-4, with a game in hand.

However, Europa League could be their best chance of qualification for Europe.

Speaking to the press recently, Mourinho insistent that he will take both competitions seriously.

“It can give us the same as the top four, which is to play Champions League, but it can give us a title. But we are going to give everything, domestically and in Europe, to reach the Champions League,” he said speaking to the press before the game against Anderlecht.

The Red Devils have their Europa League game against Anderlecht on Thursday, just days before they welcome Antonio Conte’s Chelsea and Mourinho insisted that he will not prioritize either game.

He said that the press will kill him if he decides to go into the game against Chelsea with a weakened squad.

“I think if we play against Chelsea with the second team you will kill me,” he said at his press conference.

“The country, the football country, will kill me because when mathematically it’s possible there’s no reason not to try.

“If in the certain moment of the season we have no chances to get the top four and we’re still in the Europa League then there’s a reason that nobody can deny, nobody can criticize because then if we only have the Europa League we have to focus on the league.

“In one week we play Tottenham, Southampton, Palace and then the Europa League final then everyone needs to accept I’ll focus on Europa League,” he added.

He also went on to say that his team needs to finish the season well to make it a success and insisted that Manchester United will fight to finish as high as they can in the points table come the end of the season.

“Even if we beat Anderlecht we don’t know what will happen.

“We need to continue in the Premier League and show the amazing character until the end.

“Until it is mathematically possible we will fight for top four.”
