Renato Sanches has revealed the reason he chose to join Bayern Munich during the summer of 2016.

The Portuguese sensation snubbed Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United to join the Bundesliga champions after a successful Euro’16 campaign.

The 19-year old opted to play under Carlo Ancelotti at Bayern, and he confessed that the manager was a major reason he picked the club.

“Ancelotti always looks calm and in charge. You can just see he has a lot of experience. He is getting involved with his players a lot and is helping players to make individual progress.

“[Bayern] really put in a lot of effort and I immediately got a feeling the people in charge believed in me as a player. That was the decisive factor behind my decision to join.”

Mourinho planned on making Sanches, his Portuguese compatriot, one of his first signings at Old Trafford. But the 2013 Champions League winners beat the Red Devils’ to his signature, bagging him in a £30 million move from Benfica.

One of the other major factors that influenced Sanches’ decision was the presence of the number of stars in Bayern’s line-up.

“I am also playing alongside a lot of world-class players here. I can learn from all of them, especially from the players who play in midfield like Arturo Vidal, Xabi Alonso and Thiago Alcantara”

Sanches’ deal could finally be worth £68 million based on his achievements and appearances.
