Ryan Giggs Picks His Premier League Team Of The Season
Legendary winger and current Telegraph columnist Ryan Giggs has picked his Premier League’s Team of the Season so far.
The team consists of 5 Spurs players, 3 players from Chelsea, 2 from Manchester United, and 1 from Liverpool. The complete team is as follows:
GK: David De Gea – Manchester United
Ryan’s Reasoning: “He is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, and although Courtois and Lloris have kept more clean sheets, I would still take De Gea on his ability to pull off the game-changing save.”
RB: Antonio Valencia – Manchester United
Ryan’s Reasoning: “He is having his best ever season at Old Trafford at right-back. I have always rated Antonio as a top player but he looks better than ever now and dominates that right side.”
CB: David Luiz – Chelsea
Ryan’s Reasoning: “Has made a great return to Chelsea. He has hardly put a foot wrong and ideal for passing the ball out of the centre of a three-man defence. A major part of what makes Chelsea tick.”
CB: Toby Alderweireld – Tottenham Hotspur
Ryan’s Reasoning: “He is the best centre-back in the league when it comes to defending alone. Spurs have conceded fewer goals than any other team in the league.”
LB: Danny Rose – Tottenham Hotspur
Ryan’s Reasoning: “Currently injured but has shown all the qualities of a top left-back. Comparable to Patrice Evra in his ability to get forward and back down the left side.”
CM: N’Golo Kante – Chelsea
Ryan’s Reasoning: “He would have my vote for player of the year. A close one between him and Hazard in second place. But I just think Kante has been outstanding for so long that he deserves it.”
CM: Mousa Dembele – Tottenham Hotspur
Ryan’s Reasoning: “I have always rated him highly but this season he has gone to another level. His fitness is much better and he finishes the 90 minutes.”
RM: Adam Lallana – Liverpool
Ryan’s Reasoning: “Another one currently injured but he has been a major part of what makes Liverpool’s system work. High energy and great quality when he is on the ball.”
CAM: Dele Alli – Tottenham Hotspur
Ryan’s Reasoning: “A young player who more often than not makes the right decisions. Runs in behind defences without the ball, and as a result scores a lot of goals.”
LM: Eden Hazard – Chelsea
Ryan’s Reasoning: “He is the best attacking player in the league ahead of Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez. Has the ability to turn a game on his own.”
ST: Harry Kane – Tottenham Hotspur
Ryan’s Reasoning: “Also currently injured but a prolific goalscorer for Spurs. Gets in ahead of Romelu Lukaku on his work-rate. Always prepared to give more for the team.”
