The Madrid Derby: Ronaldo Proves To Be The ‘Real’ Deal In An Easy 3-0 Win

As the two gigantic city rivals, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, clashed earlier tonight in the first semi-final leg of the UEFA Champions League, it was Zinedine Zidane’s men who came out all guns blazing, and emerged as the deserving 3-0 victors with a splendid performance.

With the venue being Santiago Bernabeu, and the chance of putting one step right into the final, it was a night that had goals, drama, and high levels of quality ready to be delivered to the world watching with high expectations.

With Diego Simeone’s men looking to avenge two final defeats at the hands of Real Madrid in the past 3 years, one would probably have expected a better fight and display from the away side on the night, but a slow defence which had no clues about how to tackle Ronaldo led to their eventual downfall.

The Portuguese forward was at his lethal best against a side featuring Antoine Griezmann in it yet again, as he helped himself to a hat-trick, with one goal coming in the first half and the remaining two in the second forty five that followed. This helped Ronaldo reach the 50-goals mark in the knockout stages of the competition, and also took his Champions League tally to a staggering and quite unbelievable 103 goals.

The match was dominated in every sense possible by the home side, and Keylor Navas barely had a noteworthy save to make throughout the entire 90 minutes.

The changing of three forward players during the course of the match did not really help Atletico’s case in attack, and they will now have to achieve the impossible, by not only keeping Real Madrid from scoring goals next week, but also making full use of having Vicente Calderon as the venue, and somehow bagging 4 goals with the home support behind them.

A tall order awaits Atletico, but until then, it is clearly advantage Real Madrid.
