Atletico Madrid Swoop For AS Monaco Midfielder Fabinho
Atletico Madrid may have pulled off ‘a Manchester United’ on the Red Devils themselves, by successfully swooping in for their top transfer target: Monaco midfielder Fabinho. The Ligue 1 champions have reportedly agreed on a deal for the player with the La Liga giants.
Even before the transfer season formally opened, the 23-year-old was heavily linked with the English club, and at several points, he was even understood to have signed a deal. But according to recent reports from Spanish media outlet AS (via the Express), Los Rojiblancos have now reached an agreement with Monaco.
Ever since Romelu Lukaku’s high-profile transfer was announced, Manchester United significantly cooled down their interest for the young Brazilian, and Monaco realized it soon enough.

Atletico may have to pay upwards of £40 million for this prospective move, if it does pan out on its intended path. The management at Vicente Calderon have decided to go on with the transfer, despite the ban imposed on them.
This could have 2 possible outcomes: Either the midfielder stays put at Monaco till Atletico complete their ban, or the player moves immediately, and sits on the sidelines until the ban period formally finishes.
The Madrid-based outfit has been doing good business this summer despite the restrictions, as they managed to hold on to Antoine Griezmann, who was all but set to become a Manchester United player. The Frenchman has now signed a new contract with the club, staying by his team in their time of need.
AS also claimed that Fabinho’s ex-club, Real Madrid, would be making a decent amount of money out of this move due to the clause in the Brazilian’s clauses, which could help Los Blancos pocket up to £200,000.
Fabinho is a very versatile midfielder who typically operates on the defensive side of the field. He has a keen eye, and is a good feeder of passes for the forwards.
